About Racketts

Racketts Archery Club was formed on the 10 June 1985 by Joe Dormer. Since that time however many members have come and gone but the values of the club remain the same. It was Joe's intention to have a 'Family Orientated' club that was 'open and friendly' which promoted and encouraged the sport of Archery. We still maintain these standards set by Joe and whilst being 'open and friendly' we are still highly competitive when it comes to competitions.

Although we are not a very large club, our maximum membership is about thirty, we shoot a variety of disciplines. The most popular bow shot at Racketts is the 'recurve' type but we also have members that shoot the traditional 'longbow' and 'barebow'. We are a target club and shoot under Archery GB (GNAS) regulations, but a few members also belong to the NFAS and enjoy 'field' archery.

We have two shooting venues, one in Dunton, used during the summer for shooting up to a maximum distance of 100 yds and one at James Hornsby School. James Hornsby School, Laindon, is our indoor venue during the winter where we are able to shoot 20 yds twice a week. We also host 2 competitions during the indoor season. We meet on Sunday mornings from 10.00 am and on a Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm to 10.00pm. (Times may vary check with a member).

When people join a club they have to abide by the regulations set down by Archery GB. Most Archery clubs do not have individual liability insurance and use the insurance provided by Archery GB, so when new members join our club we are able to offer them, under Archery GB regulations, six lessons at a cost of £30. This provides the new member with temporary insurance cover but after this the full fee must be paid yearly. You can email us with any further questions on the Contact page.
